Pre-Op Instructions

  1. You must not eat or drink anything, not even water, after midnight the night prior to surgery. If you have medications that must be taken with water, please do so with a small sip only. Please confirm this with the clinic before doing so.
  2. The clinic must be notified at least 48 hours in advance if you are requesting changes to the original treatment plan. (i.e. sedation to local, number of extractions, anything discussed with Dr. Mitton at the consultation) Your treatment plan will not be adjusted the morning of the surgery.
  3. While you may be fully conscious following your surgery, your judgement and reactions may be impaired from sedation or anesthesia. You must not drive home or go home alone. You must make arrangements for an adult to escort you home following surgery and to be with you the remainder of the day.
  4. Please have your driver/escort remain at the clinic for the duration of your surgery and recovery. Failure to do so may result in your surgery being rescheduled to a later date.
  5. You must not operate a vehicle, power tools, or any machinery for 24 hours following sedation or anesthesia. Avoid tasks requiring co-ordination or judgement during this time. You are advised to avoid alcohol, sedatives, or tranquilizers until the following day. If in doubt, ask your surgeon.
  6. If you are taking any new medications that were not discussed at the time of your consultation, please advise the clinic prior to the day of your surgery so these medications may be taken into consideration. There will not be sufficient time to discuss these changes on the morning of surgery.
  7. If your health changes (develop a cold, flu, any chest disease, etc.) during the week prior to surgery, please advise the clinic.
  8. Please do not wear contact lenses the day of surgery.
  9. Please wear an open-neck, short-sleeve shirt on the day of surgery and NO make-up, nail polish or jewelry.
